Our Outer Banks Law Firm

Simmons Law was founded by Chrissy Simmons in 2013.

Chrissy opened her private practice initially concentrating in the areas of family law and criminal defense. Over the years, the firm’s practice areas have expanded into juvenile court, DSS Court, and all aspects of domestic violence.

Meet Chrissy Simmons

Lead Attorney & Founder

Chrissy Simmons grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA; however, her immediate and extended family have called the OBX home for over 50 years.

Education

In 1999, Chrissy graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Old Dominion University. She received her Juris Doctor from Wake Forest School of Law in 2003 and began her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the First Judicial District. As a prosecutor, Chrissy handled all levels of misdemeanor and felony cases in Juvenile, District, and Superior Courts.

The Simmons family directs and sponsors the annual OBX Four Corners Basketball Camp and has done so for over 20 years. Chrissy and her family are faithful members of Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. Chrissy and her husband live in Manteo with their two sons.

When not in the office, Chrissy enjoys exercising, relaxing on the beach while her kids surf and skim, camping with her son and his Scout troop, and she most often can be found at the various sporting complexes throughout the region cheering on her children and their teams in baseball, basketball and soccer.

Amie Ballance

Amie Ballance, Simmons Law OBX Legal Assistant

Legal Assistant

Amie is a long-time resident of Dare and Currituck County. She has worked for over ten (10) years in the legal field including as a legal assistant at Vandeventer Black, PLLC, a victim witness coordinator for the District Attorney’s Office of the First Judicial District and a case manager for North Carolina Child Support Enforcement Agency.

Chrissy and Amie worked together while both were in the DA’s office and Chrissy knew that Amie was the right fit for her growing practice. Amie is the face of Simmons Law Firm and will greet you with courtesy, respect, and thoroughness when you call or come to the office.

When not assisting clients at Simmons Law, Amie can usually be found at a softball field somewhere in eastern North Carolina faithfully supporting her two daughters. Amie and her family reside in Wanchese and are active members of the Wanchese Assembly of God.
